At Galeria Senda in Barcelona, part of the Barcelona Emerging Art Festival, Gonzalo Guzmán presented his first solo show, Collision. Here in Vancouver, BC, we are shaking off a cool, wet winter and embracing the light that spring brings us. Each year the sunshine reminds us just how important light is in our lives. As humans, we too feel solar-powered. Reviewing some Barrisol projects recently we found ourselves admiring two installations form the UK. We imagine, like us in Vancouver, BC, those in the UK must also hold light in high regard. The project below features an impressive sculptural design, which includes Barrisol Lumiere fabric. Our compliments to PLP Architecture for this impressive installation. It is located at 22 Bishopsgate London, UK. Watch the video here. The following installation, by Stiff + Trevillion Architects, at 40 Bank Street, London UK, is a perfect example of how Barrisol can be implemented to create a skylight effect using backlit translucent Barrisol sheeting. Watch the video here. No matter the weather outside, Barrisol Lumiere can bring light into your space. Read more about Barrisol Lumiere here.
This month welcomes the Year of the Tiger. Did you know that in 2010 Barrisol Sydney installed two Barrisol Lunar Tigers in Australia for the Lunar New Year? Here are the details below, courtesy of Barrisol.com.
Barrisol Tigers - Australia Customs House was the home for two 8mtr long by 2.5 mtr high Chinese Lanterns in the shape of a Tiger designed by LAVA and realized by Barrisol Sydney. These wire framed tigers were covered in our Barrisol "Orange Coulouma" and internally lit with the help from Sydney based lighting consultant "XENIAN" lighting – weighing only 200kg each. The crouching digital tigers combine ancient lantern making methods with cutting edge digital design and fabrication technology, bringing east and west together through tradition and innovation. Since celebrating Chinese New Year in Sydney 2010, the tigers have been adopted by the World Wild Fund (WWF) for the international Year of the Tiger campaign to raise awareness about the endangered status of tigers. With the WWF the LAVA designed Barrisol Tigers have led a world tour, moving onto Kuala Lumpur and Berlin. Most recently the Tigers have been on tour in the USA tour as part of G'Day USA. This installation is a stunning example of Barrisol's backlit translucent fabric. In this case the light boxes are suspended, complimenting the other design elements perfectly. Congratulations to Architect Adam Freestone for this wonderful use of the Barrisol stretch ceiling system. During the months that we are unable to travel it is helpful to see new places virtually. Mulgrave School in West Vancouver features 14 suspended white triangular ceilings, 2 back lit leaf shaped ceilings, and 1 back lit round ceiling. The white triangular ceilings contain tiny micro perforations that turn sound waves into heat energy. Barrisol's micro-perforated fabrics are used to target adjust sound absorption and room reverberation time. Mulgrave School

Barrisol Installation: Barrisol BC The printed and back lit Barrisol ceiling, at the ARC Vancouver, can be seen in the recent Dailyhive.com news article, "There's now a surreal 200-ft high, glass-bottom pool in downtown Vancouver", by Kenneth Chan. Article Excerpt: "While the pool is certainly the centrepiece of the tower’s design, it is enhanced by a colourful ‘Ode to Canada’ ceiling design. During nighttime, the illuminated pool, with light bouncing off the ceiling, turns the underside into a beacon for the tower." -Kenneth Chan Photos: Dailyhive.com Article Link: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/arc-vancouver-glass-bottom-pool-concord-pacific ARC Vancouver 998 Expo Boulevard, Vancouver Builder: Concord Pacific Design: LIV Design Studio Architecture: Francl Architecture Barrisol Installation: Barrisol BC Thank you to Barrisol Welch for another great video, showcasing the installation process for the Barrisol stretch ceiling system. "The Contemporary Art museum of Munich was inaugurated last May. Its architecture is based on a design and ecological concept. The architect Sauerbruch Hutton chose Barrisol Lumière® to light and enhance the exposed works of the XXth century among which the Andy Wahrol's famous paintings. Indeed, Barrisol Lumière® diffuses the light in a sweet and homogeneous way on the whole exhibition space. Furthermore, the Barrisol sheets are 100%, recyclable and are so perfectly adapted in this modern building turned to sustainable environment." - Courtesy of www.barrisol.ca. 2015 looks like it is going to be a busy year for the construction, architecture & design industry here in greater Vancouver, BC. Whether you are working on a small project.... or a large one... we can add some light to your space with custom translucent Barrisol ceilings... To achieve even back lighting we recommend either florescent tubes (1 ft from the Barrisol ceiling membrane and 1 ft on center) or LEDs. When back lighting with LEDs the quantity and the spacing of the lights will need to be determined by the specific LEDs selected. To view more photos of back lit ceilings please visit our Lighting Gallery.
