Justin in not only a skilled carpenter and Barrisol ceiling installer, he is also an avid golfer. He recently received a "Hole-In-One" award at Capilano Golf and Country Club. His attention to detail pays off in both aptitudes.

Interestingly, Justin was one of the Barrisol installers for the ceiling work that we completed at the Capilano Golf and County Club Restaurant. Now we can toast to Justin's golf achievements while sitting below his handywork within the restaurant!

In Praise of Light

Here in Vancouver, BC, we are shaking off a cool, wet winter and embracing the light that spring brings us. Each year the sunshine reminds us just how important light is in our lives. As humans, we too feel solar-powered.

Reviewing some Barrisol projects recently we found ourselves admiring two installations form the UK. We imagine, like us in Vancouver, BC, those in the UK must also hold light in high regard.

The project below features an impressive sculptural design, which includes Barrisol Lumiere fabric. Our compliments to PLP Architecture for this impressive installation. It is located at 22 Bishopsgate London, UK. Watch the video here.

The following installation, by Stiff + Trevillion Architects, at 40 Bank Street, London UK, is a perfect example of how Barrisol can be implemented to create a skylight effect using backlit translucent Barrisol sheeting. Watch the video here.

Year of The Tiger - Happy Lunar New Year!

This month welcomes the Year of the Tiger. Did you know that in 2010 Barrisol Sydney installed two Barrisol Lunar Tigers in Australia for the Lunar New Year? Here are the details below, courtesy of Barrisol.com.

Barrisol Tigers - Australia

Customs House was the home for two 8mtr long by 2.5 mtr high Chinese Lanterns in the shape of a Tiger designed by LAVA and realized by Barrisol Sydney. These wire framed tigers were covered in our Barrisol "Orange Coulouma" and internally lit with the help from Sydney based lighting consultant "XENIAN" lighting – weighing only 200kg each. The crouching digital tigers combine ancient lantern making methods with cutting edge digital design and fabrication technology, bringing east and west together through tradition and innovation.

Since celebrating Chinese New Year in Sydney 2010, the tigers have been adopted by the World Wild Fund (WWF) for the international Year of the Tiger campaign to raise awareness about the endangered status of tigers. With the WWF the LAVA designed Barrisol Tigers have led a world tour, moving onto Kuala Lumpur and Berlin. Most recently the Tigers have been on tour in the USA tour as part of G'Day USA.

The Smithe - Viewpoint Public Art Collaboration

Happy New Year from Barrisol BC. To start the year we would like to share with you a printed and backlit Barrisol ceiling we installed at The Smithe by Boffo Developments in Vancouver, BC. It features the art of local BC artist, Ben Reeves.

Thanks to Boffo Developments for the following video, which so well encapsulates the beauty of the design concept and the Barrisol stretch ceiling itself. Our congratulations to artist Ben Reeves for the creation of this stunning public art piece, Viewpoint. As Jan Ballard said, it is "a jewel in the sky".

An interesting coincidence is that artist Ben Reeves teaches at Emily Carr University and the photographer, Rachel Topham, has worked with us previously to photograph the art of Emily Carr (Big Raven) as part of a residential project that we completed a few years back in collaboration with the Vancouver Art gallery.
