September marks the return of the school year so we wanted to feature one of our favorite Barrisol school installations.

Mulgrave School in West Vancouver features 14 suspended white triangular ceilings, 2 back lit leaf shaped ceilings, and 1 back lit round ceiling. The white triangular ceilings contain tiny micro perforations that turn sound waves into heat energy. Barrisol's micro-perforated fabrics are used to target adjust sound absorption and room reverberation time.

The printed and back lit Barrisol ceiling, at the ARC Vancouver, can be seen in the recent Dailyhive.com news article, "There's now a surreal 200-ft high, glass-bottom pool in downtown Vancouver", by Kenneth Chan.

Here are 4 excellent examples of printed Barrisol ceilings. Printing is completed in France prior to the ceiling being shipped. The membrane will go through the printer 3 times to allow for excellent print quality. Barrisol has a variety of stock images (both free and with a charge) or you can provide your own image. Choose an opaque fabric or a translucent fabric (so the image can be back lit).

​Barrisol's diverse range of colours/finishes, it's ability to be shaped, to incorporate lighting, to provide a quick and lightweight installation, makes Barrisol a perfect option for your projects, from the simple to the complex.

The Quang Ninh Museum in Vietnam includes an "ARTOLIS" printed wall installation.

This installation shows the excellent print quality of the material and also features it's ability to help create the feeling of being in an outdoor landscape while inside an urban setting.

"Another distinctive element is the use of light. At the juncture delineating the family and recreational area to the west and the competition area to the east, a series of Y-shaped structural columns support a six-meter-wide skylight. The shifting sun casts patterns on the Barrisol screen, offering a textural element that helps mitigate any sense of sterility in the super white environment. The textile like feel of the material, as well as the humidity resistant large-scale tegular acoustic paneling system help to reduce noise and glare.
The entire building is effectively a tabula rosa, a screen reflecting the surrounding environment, and at night it's interior illumination - especially it's suspended LED lighting - transforms it into an architectural lantern."

​This September Barrisol Normalu is celebrating their 50 Year Anniversary! 
Congratulations to Barrisol for their continued production, innovation, and commitment to product excellence.

While you are shopping at Park Royal South take a moment to look up and find the 17 high gloss white Barrisol ceilings installed throughout the mall corridors. Most of them will be on the West side of the mall. ​​You will also find translucent Barrisol light boxes in that area as well as circular light boxes in the food court.

Look for the vertical, translucent, Barrisol "screen' that is dividing the two pool areas. We think it's a great design.
Barrisol is a perfect solution for the environmental demands of swimming pools areas. Thermally stable from -40 to +50°C, Barrisol does not attract dust, is mold resistant, water impermeable and requires no painting or regular maintenance. Barrisol also assists with the noise reverberation problems experienced in swimming pool areas.

Paul Lafrance’s TV show, Custom-Built, on channel HGTV featured the Barrisol stretch ceiling system (colour: Blanc Orchidee #02010).

The Episode is called "Bright White Kitchen" and includes the installation of a high gloss, white Barrisol ceiling .

In our last post we explained to you how to back light translucent Barrisol ceilings to create custom lighting in your space. Today we would like to show you how Barrisol's high gloss membranes can help you to increase the perceived ceiling height in a room. This method works especially well when there is natural light or up lighting.

To achieve even back lighting we recommend either florescent tubes (1 ft from the Barrisol ceiling membrane and 1 ft on center) or LEDs. When back lighting with LEDs the quantity and the spacing of the lights will need to be determined by the specific LEDs selected.
