October is a time to give thanks. This month we would like to thank Barrisol photographer, Michael Maheux, for his expertise and patience. Her is a sneak peak of some of our recent Barrisol installations that we will be posting to our website soon.        Since our last posting we have gone from cool weather to a heat wave and a variety of temperatures in between. This reminds us how important it is to have a space with a comfortable climate. Here in Vancouver, BC, we are shaking off a cool, wet winter and embracing the light that spring brings us. Each year the sunshine reminds us just how important light is in our lives. As humans, we too feel solar-powered. Reviewing some Barrisol projects recently we found ourselves admiring two installations form the UK. We imagine, like us in Vancouver, BC, those in the UK must also hold light in high regard. The project below features an impressive sculptural design, which includes Barrisol Lumiere fabric. Did you know that in 2010 Barrisol Sydney installed two Barrisol Lunar Tigers in Australia for the Lunar New Year? Here are the details below, courtesy of Barrisol.com. Barrisol Tigers - Australia Customs House was the home for two 8mtr long by 2.5 mtr high Chinese Lanterns in the shape of a Tiger designed by LAVA and realized by Barrisol Sydney. These wire framed tigers were covered in our Barrisol "Orange Coulouma" and internally lit with the help from Sydney based lighting consultant "XENIAN" lighting – weighing only 200kg each. The crouching digital tigers combine ancient lantern making methods with cutting edge digital design and fabrication technology, bringing east and west together through tradition and innovation. Since celebrating Chinese New Year in Sydney 2010, the tigers have been adopted by the World Wild Fund (WWF) for the international Year of the Tiger campaign to raise awareness about the endangered status of tigers. With the WWF the LAVA designed Barrisol Tigers have led a world tour, moving onto Kuala Lumpur and Berlin. Most recently the Tigers have been on tour in the USA tour as part of G'Day USA. Happy New Year from Barrisol BC. To start the year we would like to share with you a printed and backlit Barrisol ceiling we installed at The Smithe by Boffo Developments in Vancouver, BC. It features the art of local BC artist, Ben Reeves.
Thanks to Boffo Developments for the following video, which so well encapsulates the beauty of the design concept and the Barrisol stretch ceiling itself. Our congratulations to artist Ben Reeves for the creation of this stunning public art piece, Viewpoint. As Jan Ballard said, it is "a jewel in the sky".

An interesting coincidence is that artist Ben Reeves teaches at Emily Carr University and the photographer, Rachel Topham, has worked with us previously to photograph the art of Emily Carr (Big Raven) as part of a residential project that we completed a few years back in collaboration with the Vancouver Art gallery.
